Frequently Asked Questions
If you still have any questions about our skincare products that repel naturally
OR require additional assistance please contact us at buzz@thebuzzskin.com

Why is it called the BUZZ?

We chose ‘the BUZZ’ because it creates an atmosphere of excitement, enthusiasm and activity. Simultaneously the BUZZ holds a strong  association with Insects. Keeping income with DUALITY of the brand, multi-purpose/multi use.

skincare with benefits.

How do the BUZZ products differ from other skincare brands?

We believe that the products you put on your skin should be as whole, clean, and packed with nutrition as the food you put in your body. Harnessing powerful antioxidants and phytonutrients from cold-pressed plant extracts. We are different because at the BUZZ, our formulas combine locally sourced super herbs AND utilize sience ( for dual action products) to keep your skin as youthful, vibrant, and as naturally protected from insects and the elements as possible.

What makes the BUZZ all-natural / Organic?

The INGREDIENTS! We use real ingredients for real results. We source the freshest, cleanest  mostly local & organic ingredients to power our products. Our non-toxic, and non-GMO ingredients come from small farms that are committed to organic, sustainable, and pesticide-free farming practices. We make sure that the products are formulated so that the repellents are powerful AND effective- without DEET or Picaridin.

DEET free….what does that mean?

Most common insect repellents are synthetic and contain a harmful chemical called DEET.

DEET (chemical name: N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide) is the active ingredient in many repellent products, widely used to repel bugs such as mosquitoes and ticks. Rather than killing bugs, DEET works by masking our natural scent, making it hard for them to smell us. Although DEET is shown to be effective, studies show long-term applications of chemical substances are detrimental to the environment and human health!

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has tagged DEET as “slightly toxic”, citing possible harm to your brain and organs when absorbed in certain amounts. Our skin is our largest organ and it absorbs everything you put on it! It only takes 26 seconds for the chemicals in your personal care products to enter your bloodstream!

The BUZZ wanted a zero chemical, NON-GMO, pesticide-free policy for all of our products.

Rather than DEET, we follow the guidelines from The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and use the ONLY plant-based active ingredient approved in all our formulas: oil of lemon eucalyptus. We have lab tested and adjusted the concentration so it is safe in our formulas.

Can I use the BUZZ products on my face?

Yes, but with precaution. The spray is intended to be applied all over your body. It can potentially irritate your face, try a small patch test (see below) first. What works for our family is shaking spray well spray into my hands and rub together, then blotting lightly on my face. Keep out of eyes, lips, and mouth.

What skin types are the BUZZ products suitable for?

The BUZZ is great for ALL skin types and ages because we use all-natural and anti-allergenic ingredients in our products. We focus on naturally repelling bugs while restoring and repairing skin to its best condition.

Is the BUZZ repellent safe to use on babies and children?

Yes! The BUZZ spray is safe for babies 6 months old and older. As full-spectrum sprays, they are safe for the whole family, but we do suggest a patch test for sensitive skin.  The spray should be applied more heavily to clothing and away from the face!

Can I use the BUZZ while pregnant?

Our products are 100% vegan and formulated with clean ingredients. We provide our full ingredient listings on our site and recommend that you review them with your physician to determine if our line works with your pregnancy plan.

Is the BUZZ safe to use with sunscreen?

Absolutely.

Apply your Broad Spectrum (UVA + UVB) SPF all over your face & body first and let SPF sit and absorb into skin for 5-10 minutes.. You can apply your bug spray directly on top of your SPF (and onto your clothing). Both should be reapplied if you are outdoors for any prolonged period of time.

How do I use the BUZZ?

SHAKE WELL. Spray liberally all over your clothing and exposed skin. Reapply every hour or as often as needed. For more protection wear long sleeves, long pants, and avoid dark color clothing which attracts bugs. Opt for white, khaki, and lose clothing making it harder for bugs to bite. Natural formulas are not like chemicals and DO evaporate with time! Better for YOU, bad for BUGS.

I am concerned that I may be having a reaction to your product. What can I do?

Patch TEST. It’s true that everyone should patch test a new product, but it’s especially important for anyone with SENSITIVE SKIN, or for people who’ve had an unfortunately sour reaction to products similar in the past. We suggest that if you have had allergic reactions in the past or have sensitive skin, try testing the product on a small patch of skin on your arm. If you are not experiencing any  itchy or bumpy spots, then the formula works for you!

Symptoms of an allergic reaction can vary depending on which parts of your body get affected and how severe your reaction is.

If you or your child DO have an adverse reaction:

  • DISCONTINUE use, wash treated skin, and then call your local poison control center. To reach a Poison Control Center near you, call the national number at 1-800-222-1222. If you go to a doctor, take the repellent with you.

Are Natural Bug Repellents regulated?

No, not all-natural insect repellents are. Currently, we are not registered through EPA, BUT we DO follow the EPA guidelines for product evaluation. We also use third-party Labs for testing and safety.

See below for EPA guidelines on Natural Bug Repellents.

Unregistered Products

Some insect repellent products for sale in the United States do not currently require EPA registration. In the 1990s, EPA evaluated the active ingredients in these unregistered products for safety. We determined that the active ingredients posed minimal risk to human health in the percentages found in products on the market. Based on this minimal risk determination, we decided that products made from these ingredients should be exempt from registration. Note that products made from these ingredients have not been evaluated for effectiveness

Examples of ingredients used in unregistered repellents are:

Citronella oil
Cedar oil
Geranium oil
Peppermint and peppermint oil

Will the BUZZ kill the bugs?

No, our products can not kill bugs. It is used as a preventative measure to REPEL bugs. The essential oils create a strong scent that discourages insects from landing or climbing on that surface.

Do you test on animals?

We absolutely NEVER test on animals. We are vegan, cruelty-free and 100% against testing on animals. In fact, most of our live field testing has been done by lab chemists and on friends, family, and finally on our own kids.

Kid tested, kid approved.

Are your products safe on pets?

Yes! While all ingredients are clean and safe for you and your kids, they are also safe for fur!

Shake and spray app over the pet for protection. Keep off paws, eyes, and mouth. Technically, you could eat the BUZZ bug repellent, but it would make for a terrible stomach ache. Our dog ate a whole bottle and was fine. However, we don't recommend it. Do not ingest.

What should I do if I spill a bottle of spray?

If spilled on the floor or hard surface, clean up with a towel to soak up the spray. Then clean the surface area with vinegar water or your natural cleaner and water. Wipe dry. Wash towel as normal. If spilled on clothing or couch, use OxiClean to make sure any oils do not set into the fabric. Soak or wash immediately.

What is the best way to store the BUZZ?

Store in a clean dry space.

For easy accessibility, keep a bottle next to your front door for a quick spray on your way out. Also… on your front porch, in your car, in your shed, laundry room, pantry, diaper bag, and even a small travel size in your cute new handbag (keep it in a ziplock just in case)!

Products perform best when stored out of direct sunlight and at room temperature. When temperatures exceed 80 degrees or dip below 40 degrees, they may separate.

Can I recycle my empty bottle of the BUZZ?

Yes, the bottle is PET (also commonly known as PETE). As a raw material, PET is globally recognized as a safe, non-toxic, strong, and is 100% recyclable material. In fact, it’s the most widely recycled plastic in the world.

Our glass products are all recyclable and can be reused again.

How long will my products last?

All of our products have a 2-year shelf life from production and a 12-month shelf life once the product is opened. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at buzz@thebuzzskin.com
