November is National Healthy Skin Month

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, November is National Healthy Skin Month. Although here at the BUZZ, every month is healthy skin month, this November, we want to be hyper-aware of how we take care of our luscious skin!

The skin is the largest organ in your body and makes up over 15% of your total body weight. The average adult has nearly 21 square feet of skin that contain over 11 miles of blood vessels. Since our skin is so large and important, we need to take extra good care of it and make sure it is healthy.

Skin Cancer is one of the most common diseases globally; however, it can be easily treatable when spotted early. It is extremely important that you are checking your body for spots (such as moles and bumps) that are different from others. Unusual spots can be discolored or misshapen. Additionally, it is important to have regular appointments with your dermatologist to examine any irregularities.

A great way to prevent skin cancer is using SPF daily. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, applying sunscreen with an SPF factor of 15 reduces your chance of developing squamous cell carcinoma by 40% and your melanoma risk by 50%. We recommend you use at least SPF 50 when directly exposed to the sun to protect your luxurious skin. Additionally, wearing hats and sunglasses create extra protective layers that shield your beautiful face from harmful rays (and not to mention accessorizing is super fun!)

Another important tip is to stay hydrated throughout the day. Drinking water all day is critical for your body and especially your skin. Flushing out the toxins in your body through your daily dose of H2O is the best gift you can give to yourself. According to health experts, drinking eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day is the perfect amount for your body. Adding nutrients to your daily dose of water, such as lemons and cucumbers, is a great way to spice up your day and make your drinks more refreshing.

One of the most important things to remember when taking care of your skin is that you should be making sure you track what you are putting on your skin. Using products with clean ingredients is vital to the health of your skin now and in the future. That is why at the BUZZ, we make sure all our products include safe and clean ingredients to protect your skin.
